Project Background

McKay Park is a 1.68 acre neighborhood park that has served the recreational needs of Clearwater Beach's residential community for more than 40 years. Currently the space has an open grass playfield, a playground, parking lot, outdoor exercise equipment, picnic grills and two bocce ball courts.

Project Goal

To provide a renewed sense of place by updating the community playground and bocce ball court, while providing new amenities such as six pickleball courts, promenade lighting, landscaping, signage, benches, picnic tables, accessible sidewalks and drinking fountains.  Additionally, four shade structures will be installed within the new park.

Renovations include:

  • Six new lighted pickleball courts
  • New playground
  • Outdoor exercise equipment
  • A resurfaced bocce ball court
  • New shade structures
  • Improved landscaping and park amenities
  • Storm water improvements 

Timeline

August/September: Project breaks ground
January: 
Estimated project completion (Park will remain closed until all areas including playground and pickleball courts are completed)

City staff has worked closely with the Clearwater Beach Civic Association and beach residents for the park development plan.
