DemographicsClearwater's Age Wave is Here The growth of Clearwater's older adult population has accelerated well beyond national or state trends.
According to the 2000 U.S. Census, Clearwater had the highest proportion of residents aged 65 years and older (21.5 percent) for those cities with a population of 100,000 or more. In 2006, Clearwater's percentage of residents age 65 or older had risen to 22 percent of the population. In 2000, Clearwater had the highest median age of any U.S. city, 41.8 years. In 2006, Clearwater's median age had risen to 45.7 years of age, which reflects a significant increase in just six years. In 2000, Clearwater had the highest percentage of its population over the age of 85 (3.4 percent). In 2006, Clearwater's population of residents age 85 or older had risen to 4.1 percent. In addition, 28 percent of Clearwater residents are among the "baby boomer" population (i.e. born in 1946 to 1964). Sources: City of Clearwater
