Table Tennis
Table Tennis—it’s not just a game of ping-pong. It’s a game that
is ideal for everyone to play in either a recreational or competitive
environment. The game requires, and can help improve, quickness,
hand-eye coordination and focus. The game has similarities to tennis,
but not many. If you are looking for an entertaining recreational
activity that is played indoors, join a table tennis club near you.

In 1989, the Sunrise Table Tennis Club established its home in
the Long Center after traveling around Pinellas County for more
than 15 years. Under the guidance of Gill and Myrtle Wilkins and
Frank Bush, the club has evolved from beat-up, hand me down table
tennis tables to now boasting 19 world-class tables.
The club provides a friendly environment for adults to play both
singles and doubles table tennis, regardless of their skill level.
Club members include a number of Senior State and Senior National
Champions, as well as beginners who are playing just to have fun.
The club also has a traveling table tennis program designed to introduce
more youth and young adults to the sport. The Countryside Recreation
Center offers table tennis
instruction and play. On the second Tuesday of each month there
is a Handicap Round Robin Doubles event at the Long Center for recreational
fun.
The family of the late Myrtle Wilkins has established the Myrtle
Wilkins Tennis and Table Tennis Scholarship Fund. The recipient
of the scholarship will be a Florida High School student who meets
the scholastic and sporting requirements established for the scholarships.
