Tennis

Tennis is an excellent social outlet for people of all ages, and is also one of the best workouts you can get to build core strength. Participants of the game learn what it truly is to work hard, what dedication is, and how to incorporate discipline into their lives. Tennis is not just a game of the body, but of game of the mind as well. The City of Clearwater and the Henry L. McMullen Tennis Complex offer a retail pro shop which has an array of items for you to buy, from hats and shirts to balls and racquet stringing.


The Junior Programs

Meet the Staff
Chall Tennis Academy is made up of experienced instructors and counselors that are highly skilled and motivated to give you the best experience ever. Our tennis program instruction is knowledgeable, energetic, and FUN. All of our tennis activities put an emphasis on fair play, teamwork, and good sportsmanship while stressing the solid fundamental skills that will allow you to improve at a rapid pace.

Junior After School Instruction (ages 4 and up)

Tiny Tots (ages 3-5)
This program introduces children ages 3-5 to eye-hand coordination, eye to racquet coordination, balance agility, scoring and stroke production in a fun and exciting atmosphere.

Beginner
(Little or no playing experience)
Learn the basics of the game in a fun-filled, encouraging environment.

Academy I - III
(With some experience) will train like the professionals
combining their fitness and tennis skills in a competitive and fun environment.

The Adult Program

Chall Tennis 1-2-3 (Beginners)
We will be honored to give you the best start to your tennis career. You will learn the best fundamental techniques to take you game as high as you want to go.

'Back to Basics' Clinic (Recommended for 2.5-3.5 NTRP players)
If you are rusty and are having problems with execution on your shots this is what you need. This clinic helps develop proper techniques, practice ideas and basic strategies for those taking up the game or returning to the game.

Wanna Work Out (Recommended for 4.0 and above NTRP players)
If you "wanna" get your pulse going, an intense work out is what you need. Players 4.0 and up are welcome to face each other in combat. Bring lots of water and a towel.

Drill and Play "Get the home court edge" (For Drop-In Groups or Tennis Teams)
Our tennis teams can get the "treatment". Our pro's will drill you and go over any details before your matches. Get the home court edge.
(Captains or Drop-In Coordinators can contact the professional for arraignments.)

Stroke of the week
Every week we will pick a different stroke to focus on. Sometimes all you need is a little touch up. Check with the office for the stroke of the week.

Strategy Class "Diversify you game plans"
Throw the kitchen sink at your opponent. Be unpredictable in the clutch. You can learn to break sown your opponent and use strategies like the serve and volley or chip and charge.

Cardio Tennis Clinic "Get Fit" (All Levels)
Join us for an invigorating aerobic tennis workout while jamming out to some heart pumping music. This class is highly intense. Bring lots of water and a towel.
Recommended for NTRP 3.5 and up.

Play with the Pro's "Feel the Rush" (4.0 and above NTRP players)
Come on out and join the professionals with an intense workout. Balls will be flying, grunts will be heard from miles away, and feel the intensity. Bring lots of water and a towel.

Adult Drop-In
McMullen offers many opportunities for adult players to get involved.
We host several inter-club leagues including Advantage (Tuesdays),
Satellite (Tuesdays), Racqueteers (Wednesdays), PADL (Thursdays) and
USTA (Saturdays and Sundays). We can also provide names of groups or
individuals for match play. Below is information on the leagues run by
the McMullen staff.

McMullen Men's & Women's Champions Ladder Series
Just like the professional tour, you earn points through ladder matches. Get tons of points by play our majors. You will get a chance to play in our themed "Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, U.S. Open, and the season ending Masters Championships. Our Flex Ladders are a great way to meet and compete with other local tennis players.

Private Lessons (All Levels)
By Appointment
One-hour private lesson; Semi-private; group lessons also available.
