Tarpon Springs, FL (July 2, 2008) – Today, Ironman and the City of Clearwater announce modifications to this year’s Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 taking place Nov. 8 in Clearwater, Fla. The third annual event, consisting of a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike and a 13.1-mile run, will begin and end at Pier 60. more

6/27/2008 - Clearwater Watering Restrictions Extended Due to Declared Water Shortage Order

The Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) Governing Board voted unanimously to extend the current Severe Water Shortage Order once again, which restricts lawn watering throughout the region to one-day-per-week, through Sept. 30, 2008. The water shortage order was declared by SWFWMD’s Executive Director and went into effect Jan. 16, 2007. This is the fourth time the water shortage order has been extended. more

Hurricane season began June 1 and continues through November 30. As you prepare, don’t forget to properly safeguard the chemicals in your home. Families usually store chemicals such as fertilizers, paints, automotive fluids, pesticides, and cleaners in garages, sheds, kitchens, and bathrooms. If a hurricane’s damaging rain were to flood your home and break these containers, dangerous chemicals would be introduced into the environment, potentially endangering public health, wildlife, and our ecosystem. more

6/19/2008 - Children’s Banners Displayed in Conjunction with International Fiber Arts Conference

From now through Aug. 24, patrons at the Clearwater Main Library and Municipal Services Building can view an exhibition of 45 textile-inspired banners made by children. more

6/18/2008 - Cleveland Street Median to Become Outdoor Art Gallery

The medians of the Cleveland Street District will soon become an outdoor art gallery as the sculptures of three southern artists are installed in mid-July. The art exhibit, which is part of the Clearwater Public Art and Design Program, is called Sculpture360: Art in the Cleveland Street District Outdoor Gallery. more

6/18/2008 - Public Meeting to Discuss Improvements to Alligator Creek Channel “F”

The City of Clearwater’s Engineering Department will host a public meeting to discuss improvement plans for Channel “F” of the Alligator Creek Watershed Project on Monday, June 23 at 6 p.m., at the intersection of Wetherington Road and Channel “F.” The meeting will begin on Wetherington Road between Casey Jones Court and Stag Run Boulevard. If site conditions allow, the group will walk along the areas to be improved. more

6/16/2008 - Drinking Water Quality Report Now Available

The City of Clearwater Public Utilities Department released its annual Water Quality Report. The report contains pertinent water quality information of interest to Clearwater residents. As part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s “Safe Drinking Water Act Amendments,” all water systems throughout the country must publish this annual report. more

6/13/2008 - City of Clearwater Receives Three Construction Awards

The city’s Construction Division of Public Services received three awards for its signature downtown project, the Cleveland Street Streetscaping Project. The $10-million project opened in December 2007, and the city is already receiving statewide recognition for the project. more

6/5/2008 - City of Clearwater’s Wastewater Treatment Plants Receive Three Safety Awards

The city’s three Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facilities were each selected to receive a 1st Place Safety Award by the Florida Water Environment Association (FWEA). This agency recognizes public wastewater treatment facilities for their outstanding safety records. Clearwater won three awards in the category of “Class A” Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facilities. more

6/5/2008 - Don’t Touch Those Flags!

For your safety and to prevent utility service outages, Florida law prohibits removing utility flags, locator marks, or paint marks from near any property in street rights-of-way or easements. These locater marks show where underground utility lines are located. Flag removal will possibly endanger an underground project, and it is a misdemeanor. more
