Join us on World Sustainability Day to learn how Clearwater’s many teams keep our city bright and beautiful.

  • Tour our Northeast water reclamation facility and see how we turn sewage into reclaimed water that can be applied to lawns and landscaping.
  • Learn how to conserve water using rain barrels and installing rain gardens at home.
  • Find out how to start a compost bin and put food scraps to a higher, better use than tossing in the trash.
  • Find out how the city handles its recycling and what can and cannot be tossed into your blue recycling bin.
  • See what it takes to build and maintain a biodigester, which is a tank or apparatus that uses microbial action to convert organic waste material like food leftovers or sewage into biogas. These are commonly used throughout Asia and the Middle East.
  • Find out how to install water-saving devices, such as low-flow showerheads, sink aerators, toilet tummies, etc. to conserve water in your home.
  • See a demonstration of a Clearwater water meter and how to identify leaks in your home.

Visitors can tour the plant, talk to operators about how our wastewater treatment process works, see our giant pools and pumps that are larger than most people. Tours take about 60-90 minutes and happen every half hour: 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., noon, and 12:30 p.m.

The tour may not be appropriate for very small children. Strollers are not allowed on the walkable tour route but can be left near the entrance. Americans with Disabilities Act, or ADA, accommodations will be made as possible. The facility is not fully ADA-accessible.

Talk with staff from Clearwater Public Utilities, Sustainability, Solid Waste and Recycling, and Utility Customer Service and find out what they love about keeping Clearwater bright and beautiful.
