Public Artwork Dedication Ceremony at Water Tanks in Countryside Area
Published on August 06, 2024
Clearwater, Fla. - A dedication ceremony for two new public art murals will take place on Aug. 7, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Clearwater Public Utilities, located at 2709 State Road 580. During the ceremony, visitors will have the opportunity to view the murals up close and take photographs.
The artwork, designed and painted by Winter Springs artist Christian Stanley, represents the latest commission by the city's Public Art and Design Program. The two murals, titled "Tailing" and "Silver Kings," were created with highly durable Tnemec brand paint to withstand harsh outdoor weather and heat. The purchase and installation of the murals were made possible by a matching grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, totaling $60,000.
This project is a cooperative effort between Clearwater Public Utilities and the Office of Art and Culture Affairs, highlighting the city's commitment to integrating public art into community spaces. Clearwater has been commissioning public art as part of its effort to bring more visual artworks to local communities. Artists, like Stanley, are selected through a national call and are required to research the project and site where the final piece will be displayed.
The murals can be viewed by anyone driving along State Road 580 between Landmark Drive and Countryside Boulevard. For more information on Clearwater's Public Art and Design Program, visit www.myclearwater.com/culturalarts.
