Kapok Park

a boardwalk surrounded by greenery

Kapok Park is located on the west side of McMullen Booth Road just north of Drew Street and connects to the Ream Wilson Trail. The park has a very relaxing atmosphere with large open spaces, an almost mile long nature trail, historic moss-covered oak trees, bridges over tranquil waters and boardwalk trails that wind throughout the park.

The 19.4 acres of herbaceous and forest wetlands absorb nutrients, enhance water quality and reduce pollutant loading downstream to Alligator Lake and Old Tampa Bay. Before the floodplain was filled and the stream was channeled in the 1960s, a creek meandered through a forested wetland that extended for several miles. A portion of this historic channel remains, bisecting the central island. The restored wetland and upland areas provide essential habitat for wildlife, including many threatened and endangered species.
