McKay Park is a 1.68 acre neighborhood park that has served the recreational needs of Clearwater Beach's residential community for more than 40 years. Originally, the space was an open grass playfield for youth activities. Later on, a playground, parking lot, outdoor exercise equipment, picnic grills and two bocce ball courts were added. Recently, a portion of the park was used a temporary fire station during the construction of the new Fire Station 46.

Due to an increase in popularity, there is now a tremendous demand to provide pickleball courts for Clearwater residents to use. Currently, there are no dedicated pickleball courts on Clearwater Beach and enthusiasts are using the basketball and tennis courts at the Clearwater Beach Recreation Complex to play the sport. This is not an ideal situation as it prevents basketball and tennis players the opportunity to play their dedicated sports on courts designed for their interest.
City staff has worked closely with the Clearwater Beach Civic Association and beach residents in the development of a plan for the park.

Renovations include:

  • Six new lighted pickleball courts
  • New playground
  • Outdoor exercise equipment
  • A resurfaced bocce ball court
  • New shade structures
  • Improved landscaping and park amenities
  • Storm water improvements
