Sanitary Sewer Overflow Update

(This information was updated at 12:06 p.m. Feb. 5.)

A contractor was in the process of replacing a manhole at the Clearwater Country Club golf course on Jan. 22, and the bypass pumps failed. The backup pump used was unable to sustain the flow, resulting in an overflow of about 18,000 untreated gallons of wastewater. When city utility crews responded to the spill, it had reached Stevenson Creek, which is inside the golf course's property, and it was unable to be recovered. The spill has since ceased, and area has been raked and disinfected. The city reported the spill to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (Incident ID 28234).

Water quality sampling was conducted and has since ceased. A map and sampling results are posted below.
