Reclaimed Water Overflow

Overflow at Skycrest Reclaimed Booster Station: Oct. 29, 2024

Description of the location (Site name, address, cross street, any other identifying information)

  • Skycrest Reclaim Booster Pump Station
  • (Athletic Field Maintenance) near Palmetto St.
  • 901 N. Saturn Avenue, Clearwater 33755

Nature of the issue (What happened)

  • Reclaimed water storage tank overflowed.
  • This facility is offline in SCADA, and operators have no visibility or data.
  • Working with the city's Information Technology Department to resolve (IT issue is preventing SCADA communication from this site)

Status of the issue (Active, completed, etc.)

  • The spill has ceased.
  • Cleanup is active. A city vactor is onsite.

Impact of the issue (surface water, volume, public perception, etc.)

  • Estimate around 10,000 gallons of reclaimed water spilled out of the storage tank and ran into the storm drain.
  • Fully treated reclaimed water, minimal impact to environment or public perception.

Mitigation plan (What do we plan to do to prevent this from happening again)

  • Get the SCADA online for this site.

Preliminary cost of mitigation plan (rough estimate)

  • Cost of vactor truck and labor

Notifications made (State Watch, DEP, Health Department, etc.)

  • Notifications forthcoming. We need the vactor recovery data to assist with reporting.
