Save Energy, Save Money: Solar, Electric Vehicles And Energy-Smart Ideas For Home Or Business

The 2023 Building Better Neighborhoods conference took place Feb. 4, 2023, and was hosted by the city of Clearwater, the Clearwater Neighborhoods Coalition and the Suncoast Sierra Club. The event was titled "Save Energy, Save Money: Solar, Electric Vehicles And Energy-Smart Ideas For Home Or Business," and featured four topics: energy efficiency, solar energy for homes and small businesses, financing, and electric vehicles. It concluded with an EV car display.

"Here We Grow"

Whether you grow food or flowers, science can help. Learn how to prepare the soil and water environmentally and use appropriate fertilizer and compost. Amanda Streets, eco-educator and compost extraordinaire, will show you how in this session.

"What Nobody Ever Told You About the Birds and the Bees"

In this session, we will hear from local native plant and ecosystem experts on how you can attract and support pollinators.

"Where Does Your Garden Grow?"

Whether you live in a private home or an apartment, there’s a gardening option to fit everyone, including patio gardens, community gardens, food forests, and urban farms. This session will include a panel of local expert gardeners who grow food in a variety of ways.

"An Introduction to Florida-Friendly Landscaping"

The session will discuss how to select the right plants so that you can protect our precious resources, save money and have an attractive, low-maintenance yard. Lead by Doris Heitzman, Florida Friendly Landscaping™ Program Manager at UF/IFAS Pinellas County Extension.

“Building Better Neighborhoods” is a free, public education series sponsored by the city of Clearwater, the Clearwater Neighborhood Coalition and the Suncoast Sierra Club.

Contributing organizations include The Kelly Kelly Show, the Florida Native Plant Society, Wilcox Nursery, Wise Hands, Living Roots Eco Design, Clearwater Garden Club, UF/IFAS Pinellas extension, Life Farms and Beacon Food Forrest.
